Shaping the Smart City: An Immersive XR Experience at Move by Pon

Located at the Move Amsterdam by Pon experience center, “Shaping the Smart City” is an innovative XR (Extended Reality) application designed to engage children in building the cities of tomorrow. Through this hands-on, interactive experience, kids are introduced to the concepts of urban design, sustainable transportation, and the future of mobility in an exciting and creative way.

How It Works

1. Build in the Real World
   Children begin by placing physical 3D blocks within a designated space, simulating the foundation of a city.
2. Scan and Transform with Augmented Reality
   Using an iPad equipped with the “Shaping the Smart City” app, they scan their 3D block arrangements. Through the power of Augmented Reality (AR), these blocks are digitally transformed into virtual buildings that appear on the iPad.
3. Shape Your Smart City
   Once the virtual buildings are set, the app generates induction roads, electric cars, and bikes around them using a dynamic 3D algorithm. This system encourages children to move the blocks, which alters the shape, height, and layout of their city in real-time.
4. Personalize and Innovate
   Kids can further customize their city by naming it, fostering a sense of ownership and creativity in shaping their future urban environment.
